Saturday Matches Round-Up
Two results put MSHB in final

Whether it was the heat of the day or the extra bit of adrenaline that may have still been pumping from their morning match, MSHB managed to pot two against Fulchester, automatically putting them in the Sunday final. The air was muggy and hot when the two sides met in the final match of the round robin stage of the tourney, one that saw two second half goals for MSHB to give them a bye into the final.

Earlier in the day, MSHB was only able to muster a draw despite having hit the post against Celtic. Their finishing returned against Fulchester, as two partial break-aways with clinical finishing ensured all three points for the Kids.

Sunday's semi-final will feature a rematch of the opening match of the tourney, as Celtic will come up against Fulchester to play for the other spot in the final. Fulchester were able to control the pace of the first game, so Celtic will be looking to take the reigns of today's encounter. Kick-off is slated for 11:00am on Kinsmen field. The final will be at 5:00pm on TCU as league matches will be taking place on Kinsmen.

Utd Take Early Lead
Celtic unable to to save a point

Last night's opener between Celtic and Fulchester Utd was sure to be a dog fight, and it lived up to everything that very notion quite well. Utd, who have been having a decent season in Men's Div. 4 to date, were able to capitalize on the gusty conditions for a cross-turned-goal just after the midway point of the second half. Celtic had equalized off their own cross-turned-goal when Paul Trimble sent one into the box, only to see it get caught by a gust of wind and sneak past the Utd keeper. Fulchester's opener was a lazer from the right side of the 18-yard box, beating Celtic keeper Mike Jones, who was able to get fingertips to it only. Despite all their efforts, Celtic was held off the game sheet for the remainder of the second half after the Utd goal, tasting bitter defeat for only the fourth time this outdoor season.

This mornings match will pit Celtic against old foe MSHB in a Hoops derby. MSHB is currently 2nd in the standings in Men's Div. 4, and will surely test every bit of resiliance Celtic has. Match kick-off is slated for 11:00am on Kinsmen Field.

Tourney Set to Kick-Off Tonight!
Celtic to open against Fulchester Utd

The 2010 edition of the Sasktoon Celtic FC Invitational is set to kick off tonight with Celtic coming up against Division 4's Fulchester Utd. Fulchester regularly partake in Sasktoon tournament action, as the two teams have faced off against each other in multiple indoor tournaments over the years. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs in outdoor action, as Fulchester has played mainly in either Divisions 3 or 4.

With the number of issues that have arisen during the final two weeks prior to this year's tourney, it's a wonder that any competition is happening at all. The idea of renaming this year's edition The Murphy's Law Open has been raised, as every aspect came into some form of dispute during the lead-up. Here's to hoping that everything remaining goes off without a hitch. To reflect the sentiment of the Sasktel Sports Center, a plea to everyone to head up before and after games for some pints and eats and to keep merry.

Enjoy the weekend, weather is supposed to be superb. Rain or shine, the games will be played and the pints will be drank!

2010 Saskatoon Celtic FC Invitational Dates Announced
Celtic Tourney to Return in August

The 2010 Saskatoon Celtic FC Invitational will take place exactly a year since its inaugural edition, starting on the evening of Friday, August 6th, and finishing the afternoon of Sunday, August 8th. The tournament will once again be played on the artificial turf fields at the Sasktel Sports Center.

The Celtic Invitational is aimed at lower-divisional teams, featuring a Men's competition, Women's competition, and new to this year, the option of a Masters or a Co-ed competition. Which ever of the two options has 4 teams register for it first will go ahead while the other competition will be dropped.

The aim of the tournament is to create a level playing field where all teams have a chance at winning their competition. We encourage teams to pick players up from any of the eligible divisions to help bring their rosters to the maximum allowed 20 players. We will also look at creating "Open" teams for each of the competitions if there are enough single players who's teams aren't entering that are interested in playing.

Teams from out-of-province are expected this year, as well as representatives from Regina, Swift Current, the Battlefords, and Kindersley. All out-of-town teams will be researched to ensure they "fit the bill" of the tournament, in that their team skill level isn't beyond Saskatoon Men's/Women's 4. We will be working with all districts who have a team entered to ensure that rosters are not padded with ringer players.

We are also currently working with both the SSC and Great Western to ensure cheap beer throughout the course of the tournament. At minimum, we will have a beer night social on the Saturday evening starting at 7:00pm.

All interested teams can register here, or email the Tournament Organizing Committee at saskatooncelticfc@gmail.com.

Hail, hail, the Celts are here!
